The John Bunyan Trail – 86 miles – 8 days

Sundon Hills Country Park to Sundon Hills Country Park (circular)

This Trail takes you through the quiet leafy recesses of Bedfordshire; an unassuming county that was home to Puritan Evangelist John Bunyan – author of ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’ – to whose memory this Trail is dedicated. Before being incarcerated for his religious beliefs and writing his masterwork from prison, Bunyan worked as a tinker, and so he would have travelled many of the paths in the Trail as he plied his trade across the county.

Make your own pilgrim’s progress as you move from the Chiltern Hills across the valley of the Great Ouse, before returning to the chalk again.

Hostels along route – Carlton; and across region.

Visit the John Bunyan website.

Visit the Ramblers website with a PDF guide to the trail.

Discover holy places, and bring your own beliefs.

Pilgrimage by foot is connected with places and landscape, and how those places make you feel. Read about holy places.

At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
