Advent Silent Pilgrimage 1-Day to Whitsbury

Wander in deep contemplation through the tranquil rolling countryside of Cranbourne Chase, into sunset with candlelight. Guided by our Trustee Abigail Rowe from Dorset to Hampshire.
"The fact that it was a silent pilgrimage allowed me to really focus on my intention" Erica, Silent Pilgim
"It was a very special, freeing experience - to not have to speak, and to simply *be*." Sue, Silent Pilgrim

Set your silence at St Rumbold's church in the village of Pentridge - said to be the inspiration for Thomas Hardy's Tantridge in Tess of the Durbervilles. Your guide will take you up Pentridge Hill, the "hill of the wild boar" and over Martin Down to All Saints Martin where we will enjoy some quiet moments in and around the Church. We leave All Saints and walk over the hill to St Andrew's, Rockbourne, known for its captivating architecture. At St Andrew's we will collect our candles to walk in a candlelit procession over the hill to St Leonard's Whitsbury where the Reverend Les Player will lead us in a short meditative moment, breaking our silence with a carol.
Enjoy a guided pilgrimage without the pressure of socialising, to spend all day with yourself without having to navigate, or as walking meditation or reflection. Make space for yourself at this busy time of year.
What to Bring
Lunch and other amenities. There are no shops or amenities on the route so please bring food and drink and be prepared to step behind a bush. We will have our picnics at All Saints Church, Martin.

FAQ’s
Travel arrangements - We'll arrange car shares via WhatsApp - leaving some cars at the end of the route and others at the beginning. Nearest station: Salisbury, approximately £30 for a taxi but we can also coordinate shared taxis with the group.
Toilet Facilities - There are no toilets on this journey, but we know some good spots for a “wild wee”. Please bring anything you might need for calls of nature.
Who can come? Anyone over 18 (or under 18 with parental guidance, bearing in mind the walking distance).
Is this religious? This is a faith-neutral pilgrimage including a variety of traditions and practices. The journey finishes with a traditional blessing and you should expect some Christian based practice. We operate a “Bring Your Own Beliefs” policy, where pilgrims can choose when to engage and participate. We ask that all pilgrims respect one another, whatever their beliefs.
Will I be asked to share my feelings with the group? This is a silent pilgrimage and you will not be required to share with the group. There is usually some informal chatting at the beginning and end of the journey.
Are there fitness or access limitations? This route involves stiles, steep hills, some road walking, low light levels, and conditions may be muddy underfoot. There may be livestock in some of the fields. Pilgrimage is moderately intense; if you find walking all day a challenge, this type of pilgrimage may be an unsuitable activity for you right now. Unfortunately this pilgrimage is not suited for mobility-impaired people or those requiring wheeled access due to the terrain. If you have other access needs please get in touch to discuss how we can best include your individual requirements.
Can I bring my dog? Sadly not - we can’t accommodate dogs on our guided pilgrimages. However, if you have a registered assistance dog, they are welcome.
Do you offer concessions? We offer some free or discounted places to pilgrims on certain types of income-related Universal Credit, PIP, DLA ESA , JSA etc. Contact us to find out if you qualify.
What does the price cover? This pilgrimage is a fundraiser for registered charity British Pilgrimage Trust. 20% of the ticket fee is VAT. 10% of funds raised are donated to the places we visit along the route. Around 50% of your ticket covers the costs of providing the journey, including research and route surveys. Any remaining funds support our charitable work including thousands for free resources to enable people to make their own journeys. For more details about our charitable activities, please check here.
What is your refund policy? See our full policy on cancellations, postponements and ticket transfers here: https://www.britishpilgrimage.org/resources/guided-pilgrimage-refund-policy
