We need a new fundraising trustee!

The British Pilgrimage Trust is seeking a new Fundraising Trustee to join our Board in early 2026 following the departure of our long-serving trustee, Abigail Rowe. This is an important moment for the charity: pilgrimage in Britain is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a trustee who can help us shape and strengthen our fundraising capacity as we enter our next phase.
What we’re looking for
We are seeking someone with a proven track record in fundraising, ideally across several of the following areas:
- Major individual donors and high-net-worth networks
- Trusts and foundations
- Corporate partnerships
- Crowdfunding and public campaigns
- Donor stewardship and relationship building
- Fundraising strategy and pipeline development
- More general, trustees need to follow this guidance.
We welcome someone who is well-connected and comfortable drawing on their networks to help bring new supporters into the BPT family. They do not need to be religious, as we operate by a ‘bring your own beliefs’ and ‘we are all one family of pilgrims’ perspective. As a small, entrepreneurial charity with a national profile, we are looking for a trustee who enjoys rolling up their sleeves a little more than might be expected in a larger, more established organisation. This is a hands-on strategic role for someone who wants to see their expertise make a visible difference.
The role
- Attend four Board meetings per year (remote or in person) plus other events or exceptional meetings as deemed necessary. (We will remunerate for travel expenses.)
- Provide strategic leadership on fundraising across the charity
- Work closely with the Director and team to shape a sustainable fundraising pipeline
- Support the development of fundraising systems and donor journeys
- Help deepen relationships with existing supporters and cultivate new ones
- Advise on major gifts, partnerships and grant applications
- Fulfill legal duties of governance of a charity trustee in accordance with Charity Commission guidance
Why join us?
The BPT sits at the intersection of landscape, community and cultural renewal. Our work has national reach but a small, dedicated team behind it. For the right person, this trustee role offers the unusual opportunity to:
- Shape fundraising strategy from the ground up
- Directly influence the growth of a charity in a pivotal moment
- Enable thousands more people to reconnect with the land, with each other, and with themselves through pilgrimage
If you feel aligned with our mission and have the experience and networks to help us take this next step, we would love to hear from you.
Please email hello@britishpilgrimage.org by Jan 5th 2026 if you would like to apply, with a CV and covering email.
