Eggardon Hillfort, West Compton
Nr Askerwell, Bridport, Dorset

Eggardon Hill rises to 250 metres above the west Dorset countryside near Bridport — one of the most dramatic and remote hillforts in southern England.
Eggardon Hill's multiple Iron Age ramparts enclose a windswept summit with wide views across the Marshwood Vale to the sea. Within the fort lie Bronze Age bowl barrows from the Middle Bronze Age, evidence of human significance here long before the Iron Age defences were raised. The name Eggardon comes from the Old English for "the hill belonging to Eohhere" — an ancient ownership preserved in sound across more than a thousand years.
The Dorset Cernunnos and Catherine Way and The Celtic Way pass nearby, making this a natural pause point for pilgrims on foot.
Eggardon Hill is a scheduled ancient monument managed by the National Trust.
