Southwick Priory, Hampshire
Southwick, Fareham PO17 6ED

An Augustine Priory originally founded in 1128 and visited by Henry VIII
Now managed by English Heritage, and you can read more of this history of this Priory on the English Heritage website.
The was originally founded for Augustine canons (priests) in about 1128. It had an important shrine to the Virgin Mary, which drew Henry VIII to visit. Henry however closed the priory in 1538. The Priory stands on the Old Way route from Titchfield to Havant.
It can be a little tricky to find the remains of Southwick Priory, and althought much of it has been destroyed, the surrounding woods lend a peaceful place to consider the thousands of pilgrims, including Henry VIII, who visited Our Lady of Southwick.
