A market town on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains
A market town set between the Cambrian Mountains (sometimes described as Wales’s fourth unofficial National Park) and the unique Cors Caron Nature Reserve, Tregaron holds an important place in Welsh history. It was one of the great centres of the droving trade. From here, huge herds of cattle and other livestock set off for the markets of England. The drovers who herded them gave Wales an early postal service, a banking system and a huge number of legends.
Tregaron was also the home of Wales’s own Robin Hood, the outlaw Twm Siôn Catti. More recently, it was the birthplace of Henry Richard, the ‘Apostle of Peace’, who founded the Peace Union, forerunner of the League of Nations.
