Brecon Cathedral Pilgrimage in a Day – two 4.5-mile circular routes
A beautiful and interesting pilgrimage, all within a half-day walk from Brecon Cathedral.
The route runs along the River Honddu, which cuts through the Black Mountains.
The Maen-du Well is an ancient well, which used to supply the Norman-era Brecon Castle with water.
The Pen-y-Crug iron age hill fort stands on the summit of the hill above the Usk Valley. Pen-y-Crug is one of the most impressive hill forts in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with views of the town of Brecon and the surrounding mountain ranges. During the Iron Age, about 2000 years ago, Pen-y-Crug would have been a very busy place, where people lived, worked, farmed and traded.
Brecon Cathedral was founded as a Benedictine priory and became the parish church of Brecon in 1537. It became a Cathedral in 1923.

At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
