Lee Abbey to Lundy Way
Southwest England

Welcome to a pilgrimage where land and sea meet. An opportunity to wonder in God’s creation and sense the wildness of the Spirit of God. Combine rugged cliffs and expansive Exmoor with the added excitement of sailing to an island, Lundy, guarding the entrance to the Bristol Channel. Discover churches hidden in this remote landscape and in the towns of Lynton, Combe Martin and Ilfracombe. Open your senses and breathe deep. An invitation to explore, reflect and slow down.
Starting at Lynton, there are 5 stages which require some planning, particularly arriving in Ilfracombe in time for a sailing. You need to carry sufficient water with you on stage 1 and 2. These stages are remote and some paths challenging but the hope is you will take the time you need and be inspired. As our society is in flux, we are reminded at the Roman fortlet how empires rise and fall. We remember the Celtic saints who ventured to this coast in the power of the Spirit to bring good new of Jesus Christ.
From the welcome at Lee Abbey, where people from around the world come and create community together, you will find evidence of Christian communities dating back thousands of years on this journey. The destination is Lundy, an ancient and liminal place held as holy.

Discover holy places, and bring your own beliefs.
Pilgrimage by foot is connected with places and landscape, and how those places make you feel. Read about holy places.
At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
