Pilgrimage of Hope – St John’s Way, London to Nottingham, 169 miles – 16-18 days

One of four routes making up the Pilgrimage of Hope and all ending at St Barnabas’ Cathedral in Nottingham. This route is the southern arm from London to St Barnabas' Cathedral in Nottingham via the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate & St Thomas of Canterbury in Northampton.

St John's Icon

The route is named after St John but the designated patron saint is St Anne Line (c. 1563 – 1601), English married lay woman, convert and martyr. After the death of her husband, who had been banished for attending Mass, Anne was active in sheltering clandestine Catholic priests. Finally arrested, she was condemned to death and executed at Tyburn. She was canonised in 1970. Her feasts are: 27th February (individual), 25th October (with the Forty Martyrs of England & Wales), 30th August (with SS Margaret Ward and Margaret Clitherow).

Discover holy places, and bring your own beliefs.

Pilgrimage by foot is connected with places and landscape, and how those places make you feel. Read about holy places.

At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
